Va. Mosque Reaches Out, Joining Immigrant Fabric
Interfaith

From The Washington Post:

For years, the Dar al Hijrah mosque was an isolated, slightly mysterious presence in Falls Church -- a stark stone building hidden behind a row of trees, rarely visited by non-Muslims in the multi-ethnic Culmore neighborhood, and known mostly for traffic jams on Leesburg Pike as worshipers arrived for Friday prayers.

These days, the mosque bustles with visitors chattering in Spanish and Vietnamese as well as Persian and Urdu.

Guh? Does he equate proselytizing with terrorism?

I guess that excludes behaviors such as quoting the koran, then.

It would probably be wise to withdraw this statement unless you're going to post proof texts and be prepared to argue them with me.

I guess the ThP RSS feed must be working, then?  ;-)

Sura 8, verse 39: "Fight them until there is no dissension, and the religion is entirely Allah's."

President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran is quoted as saying: "The message of the Revolution is global, and is not restricted to a specific place or time. Have no doubt... Allah willing, Islam will conquer what? It will conquer all the mountain tops of the world."

Bad translation of the ayah. A better rendition would be:

"Fight them until there is no more tumult or oppression, and there prevails justice and faith in God altogether and everywhere..."

Sounds a lot like Deuteronomy, actually...

Well that's convenient (Eteraz, is that you?). But you're right, just like this: "It is easy for them to slay people and kill innocents. Nothing in the world is dearer to their hearts than shedding blood and murdering human beings." (Al-Baqarah: 61)

Yes, that's exactly what Jews do. As opposed to, you know, a satanic warlord cult out to conquer the world and subject it to sharia with the help of powerful nihilist cohorts actively working to destroy Judeo-Christian culture.

"They long that ye should disbelieve even as they disbelieve, that ye may be upon a level (with them). So choose not friends from them till they forsake their homes in the way of Allah; if they turn back (to enmity) then take them and kill them wherever ye find them, and choose no friend nor helper from among them."

Words to live by.

Wow, Hagee, is that you?

No, I mentioned the correlation between Deuteronomy I was not implying the similarities in terms of holy war, retributive killing, radically dangerous monotheism or the like --- though a case could and has been made for this line of thinking. Rather, I was referencing the radical call for justice and righteousness by all means necessary that one finds in both texts.

Once again though, I'd caution your use of translation. From what I can gather, I think you're using "The Noble Koran" which is a very ideologically driven "extremist" translation. A better translation is `Ali's "The Meaning of the Holy Qur'an. It's got lots of notes from the Haditha as well as giving you the Arabic so you can check the translation (since after all any translation of the Qur'an isn't the Qur'an).

Where's that verse? I'm Muslim and that's not what 2:61 says in my Qur'an....
