Sweden rules 'gender-based' abortion legal

From The Local:

Swedish health authorities have ruled that gender-based abortion is not illegal according to current law and can not therefore be stopped, according to a report by Sveriges Television. The Local reported in February that a woman from Eskilstuna in southern Sweden had twice had abortions after finding out the gender of the child

Sweden has now justified what the One Child Only Policy has made common practice in China...

that observation ties in to the Elective Cosmetic Surgery poll. if we can through relatively crude surgery shape our children's appearance to more closely conform to the current Ideal, how much better to build on a more ideal foundation?

I don't get it ... even if they "banned" abortion for gender selection, couldn't those who want to do it for that reason just lie and state some other reason - like, say, "I just feel like it"?

Does Sweden have any significant abortion restrictions now?

good point. when aborting for convenience is legal, why would someone need to justify abortion for any reason?

I don't know of any laws in the USA that would stop this abortion. The board ruled in Sweden that is is okay before 18 weeks. After 18 weeks abortions can not happen without special reasons and the National Board of Health and Welfare's approval.http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/population/abortion...
