New Lutheran body to form after gay pastor vote
Church

From AP:

The split over gay clergy within the country's largest Lutheran denomination has prompted a conservative faction to begin forming a new Lutheran church body separate from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.

Leaders of Lutheran CORE said Wednesday that a working group would immediately begin drafting a constitution and taking other steps to form the denomination, with hopes to have it off the ground by next August.

Thus further complicating the already difficult situation of WELS, LCMS, ELCA... Apparently now there will be a "liberal, but not *that* liberal" group. On the other hand, I'm not sure they had much alternative since they probably won't just return to the LCMS, from which the ELCA originally broke away from during Seminex fiasco in the '60s, and now their new boat has basically "gone too far".

Do you think these people forming a new denomination are those ex-LCMS people from Seminex?

Perhaps. I may be casting my net wide though and perhaps the Seminex folks, having seen the end of the road down which their claims lead, might be more amenable to correction.

When I think of the exodus that has been happening from ELCA, I feel a little sorry for them. Now that the writing on the wall has happened, I think the number of people leaving for more conservative, Scripture based churches like LCMS will increase. My church and my parents' church have benefited in numbers from ex-ELCA people over the past several years. I suspect even more so now. A new denomination might be a place for some of these people but I think by the time things are set up and running many will have left already.

Yeah, this is a problem with trying to put the brakes on late in the game. On what basis?

It's hard to avoid the suspicion that these are the folks for whom it must just be cultural distaste, no? Not the folks who started raising scriptural objections, like, five controversies ago?
